Adina Automatic “Churchie” Old Boys watch NK173 In 2017, past students of Brisbane’s Anglican Church Grammar School, known as Churchie, celebrated 100 years of the Churchie Old Boys’ Association (OBA). In the lead-up to this milestone event, the OBA commissioned Adina Watches, a Brisbane-based business and sole Australian manufacturer of watches run by father and son (and Old Boys) Robert and Grant Menzies, to produce 100 bespoke, one-of-a-kind watches for Churchie’s Old Boys. The resulting watches were that of a timeless style that gave a subtle nod to Churchie’s values and style. Throughout August 2016, the OBA committee collaborated with Grant Menzies on a design that would best suit the Old Boys centennial watch. It was decided that along with reflecting Churchie’s style in an understated manner, the watch was to be both comfortable and stylish, with a timeless design that would suit an Old Boy of any age. The OBA also wanted the watch to have longevity and therefore be something that could be passed down through the generations. On 15 August 2016, Mr Menzies presented his completed design to the OBA committee. Following the committee’s approval, Mr Menzies then oversaw the manufacturing and assembling of the watches over the next three months. During this time, Mr Menzies gave updates on the watches’ progress at the monthly OBA committee meetings and gained valuable feedback over various aspects. On 18 November 2016, Mr Menzies delivered the finished watches to the OBA and by November 2017, all 100 watches had been purchased by Churchie’s Old Boys.
